He’s a super preachy, ultra conservative Mormon, and yes a total dick. He actively works against gay rights and if his work was the last books on earth I wouldn’t buy…
I totally get why you read them. I am obsessed with books that take place in Michigan, especially Flint (my home state and town), and Colorado, especially Denver (where I live now). I would never actively discourage anyone to not buy a book of his…well beyond telling them his politics. If someone still wanted to buy his books after learning why I don’t, I don’t care. No skin off my nose.
I read Ender’s Game a few years ago and really enjoyed it, and is the only one of his books which I have currently read. It was some really great science fiction. I found out just a little while ago that Card was a total dick about gay rights, and while I completely disagree with his views and think he’s a right-wing Mormon douche-bag, I still want to read the rest of his books, because I think he writes good sci-fi. Also, whether an author is a dick in real life shouldn’t be a reason to hate his/her novels, they should stand on their own.
That is unless his gay-bashing finds its way into his novels, in which case fuck him.

One of my best friends bought me this book for Christmas. It’s a comic we both love. He got the artist to sign it and draw something, this is the result. I have the best friends.
